Josiah Rugeje-Mansouri

Josiah is a professor of history at Volkov Academy. He left his home in Zimbabwe young to escape the dangers of homophobic violence. Since then he spent much of his younger years travelling the world, and now he likes to proclaim himself to be like a real life pirate, bringing everything he's discovered or learned from then to the classroom. Josiah mostly teaches the teen years, and is well known among the student body and faculty lounge for his eccentricity. Josiah has a habit of dressing up in relevant costumes for his classes. This lines up with his other hobby, which is cosplay. He's a regular at festivals and geek conventions in Nirvana, bringing his handmade, authentic costumes for people to enjoy. He's since settled down from his adventurous days with his artist husband Hamza, whom he met through a job the latter had at the school, his step-son Karim, and the family puppy Marshmallow. Josiah hasn't lot much of his youthful charm though. He's happily enjoying his life as a family man, whilst dreaming of the sea in his spare time.

Personality
​
An intelligent, resourceful, eccentric man with a plethora of skills under his belt, Josiah had no trouble passing the requirements for being a teacher. Josiah desires to learn and share all that he does learn with the younger generation. Thanks to his ability he's able to efficiently plan out both his lessons and his free time so that each one gets the focus they deserve. He's always had a keen interest in history, but especially in roguish figures, which much of his research specialises in. Josiah likes to call himself a self proclaimed pirate, with the outfit and combat skills to much. In relation to this, his other hobbies all tend to be quite old fashioned. He enjoys perusing art galleries with his artist husband and son, going out for Sunday tea, and cosplaying at steampunk or renaissance festivals.

His husband Hamza sometimes complains that Josiah overworks himself. He has been known to spontaneously crash from exhaustion. Though his consistent optimism convinces him that he can get through any problem, sometimes Josiah is slapped in the face by harsh realities. In his younger years, it was having to survive harsh homophobia and racism. There were some instances where he barely came out alive from being attacked. It's one of the reasons he trained, not just to represent his heroes but to protect himself.
Josiah also knows that he's not perfect, and will lament deeply over the many mistakes he's made in the past. He struggles with moving on from said mistakes. His biggest regret to this day was letting three of his old, troubled students walk away when he should've stopped them. He hopes to reunite with them someday.
